There are some great movies out there in which stepmothers are presented as loving, fun, and people that audiences would want as tropes for their mother. Some are as fun as the Minions. It’s great to see a representation of stepmothers in films, especially in a positive light rather than as the evil and wicked depictions that have been seen in previous entries.
8 Brenda MacGuff – Juno
As the stepmother to the protagonist, Juno, Brenda is an adorably sweet and supportive stepmother. She may appear a little odd at first, as she has an extreme fondness and admiration for dogs. She spends her time collecting pictures of them. It turns out, it’s because she loves dogs, but has never gotten one, as she knew Juno was allergic.
Bren helps Juno to stay healthy during her pregnancy and does her best to keep her comfortable. Bren stays alongside Juno during the birth of her child. Brenda is a character that won’t be causing jump scares. She’s entirely sweet and loving, and a stepmom that all without deserve.
7 Celeste Martin – My Stepmother Is An Alien
This 1988 sci-fi comedy had Kim Basinger play Celeste, an extraterrestrial woman who receives orders to venture to Earth. Her secret mission involves finding the widow, Steven Mills, a scientist who has mistake disrupted Celeste’s planet’s gravity.

Mills is a single father, raising his daughter, Jessie. Celeste’s addition is played for laughs, with her odd inexperience with Earth culture. She struggles with concepts like cooking and trying to kiss for the first time. Celeste’s powers are revealed when she saves Jessie from being hit by a car. The fact that she exposed herself as an alien for a daughter that is not biologically hers, shows her great she is as a mom.
6 Nancy Huff – Step Brothers
When Nancy marries Robert Doback, they are pleased to find out that both of them have a middle-aged son that still lives at home with them. When the two marry and move in together, hilarity ensues with the chemistry of John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell at the front of this comedy flick.
Nancy is entirely supportive of her stepson, Dale, in his ambitions and antagonistic behavior towards her son, Brennan. She tries to help them get along, and stop them from hurting each other on more than one occasion. She’s a very supportive and friendly mother, even when she and Robert divorce.
5 Lauren Reynolds – Blended
After a divorce, Lauren Reynolds decides it’s time to hit the dating scene again. After a terrible blind date with a widower, Jim Friedman at Hooters, both agree in separate discussions that things could have been better. They run into each other again and soon find themselves stranded in a romantic suite at a vacation resort.
Jim bonds well with Lauren’s children, as does Lauren with Jim’s. Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler are a great duo in this romantic comedy, and Barrymore shows a great motherly side to Sandler’s fictional children in this movie.
4 Sarah Connor – Terminator: Dark Fate
After her son, John Connor is killed by a Terminator, the fate of the future is forever changed. Skynet killed John Connor in the last-ditch effort. But as the film explains, the future will always be dark. Without humanity’s last hope, Sarah Connor fears that all is doomed. She is still grieving, and vengeful of the loss of her son. Until, she saves a young girl, Dani Ramos.
This girl’s fate is critical to the survival of the human race. The film sees Sarah Connor teaming with an augmented human from the future, to protect Dani Ramos, and ensure that there’s a bright fate out there for humanity. Connor helps to teach Ramos a few things and becomes somewhat motherly.
3 Isabel Kelly – Stepmom
After Isabel gets engaged to Luke, a divorcee, she tries her best to get along with his children, despite not wanting them in the first place. It’s entirely new ground for her, but she is optimistic that she can make things work. Meanwhile, Luke’s ex-wife, Jackie, loathes his new fiancée.

When Jackie is diagnosed with cancer, her tune begins to change, and she accepts that Isabel will be a great mom when she is gone. It’s a very emotional film, and Isabel does a great job at learning to become a mother. One that Jackie happily accepts for her children with her last few days.
2 Amy Stoch – Bill And Ted’s Excellent Adventure
As a senior in high school when Bill and Ted were freshmen, Amy Stoch is only 3 to 4 years older than the two boys. She marries Bill’s father, divorces, then Ted’s father, divorces. Therefore, Amy has been a stepmother to both Bill and Ted in the Bill and Ted franchise.
As a person, Amy is generally very sweet. She’s friendly and supportive of Bill and Ted’s wild and comedic endeavors, whatever they may be. She is blissfully unaware of her beauty, and what it causes for the two boys, as well as the awkwardness of various marriages.
1 Beru Whitesun Lars – Star Wars
Beru is one of Star Wars’ best parents. She is more of an adoptive mother to Luke Skywalker than she is an aunt or a stepmother. She is married to Owen Lars, the stepbrother to Anakin Skywalker, and the Jedi Knight who fell to the Dark Side and became Darth Vader. Beru helped to raise Luke on the Lars moisture farm on Tatooine. After her death, Luke left his homeworld and joined the Rebel Alliance to Restore the Republic.
Beru is kind and supportive of Luke. She even brings up to Owen multiple times that he cannot stay on the farm forever, and needs to find his destiny. Beru and Owen both know the importance of the boy, as he is the son of The Chosen One. She exhibits a strong desire to protect Luke, as seen when she uses a blaster to defend the boy from Reva, in Obi-Wan Kenobi.
