RELATED: Summons We Want To See In Final Fantasy 16

In Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion, Summon Materia can be used to call forth otherworldly beings to assist Zack in a variety of different ways. Unlike most entries in the Final Fantasyseries, the player cannot directly use summons, and instead must hope the DMW grants them the option. There is eleven summons in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion, but some are better than others.

11 Magic Pot

The Magic Pot is usually the most powerful enemy in a Final Fantasy game, so it’s nice to be given the option to summon it in Crisis Core. To obtain the Magic Pot Summon Materia, the player must find the Magic Pot roaming the M10-2-3: Master Tonberry mission. Defeating the Magic Pot requires Zack to cast Assault Twister, Fira, Gravity, and Jump whenever the Pot requests.

The Magic Pot is unlike any other summon in Crisis Core. Instead of aiding Zack in battle, it offers him a chance to obtain rare items. While this strange creature can be a great help when players are farming rare materials, it proves to be quite unhelpful in battle.

10 Cait Sith

Zack will obtain the Cait Sith Summon Materia upon completing the M8-4-3: Suspicious Mail 3 mission. When summoned, Cait Sith will perform a move known as Courage Boost!, a fascinating ability that grants Zack a series of buffs.

Cait Sith gifts Zack with Endure, Physical and Magical Null, AP and MP Cost 0, and Wall, some of the most dependable defense abilities in the game. Sadly, the effects will wear off after some time passes, but they can often mean the difference between victory and defeat when they are applied.

9 Moogle

While the Moogle doesn’t exactly contribute to fights in a physical sense, it makes up for its lack of strength through the gifts it offers to Zack. Its appearance in Crisis Core usually means that Zack is about to receive a few buffs, so it’s usually a welcome sight when it appears on the DMW. When summoned, the Moogle will enhance whatever Materia Zack has equipped.

The Moogle summon can be obtained by completing the M8-4-4: Suspicious Mail 4 mission. As a Mascot Summon, it can only appear when the DMW enters its Chocobo Mode once all the pictures match.

8 Chocobo

While the Chocobo may not look like the most intimidating foe, calling upon its power in Crisis Core reveals exactly how powerful it can be. When summoned, this feathered creature will take to Zack’s side before lunging into the sky and stomping its talons on top of whatever enemies happen to be in range.

While it isn’t the most powerful summon available in the game, it can be a great help when the player is struggling against a tough group of enemies. The Chocobo Summon can be unlocked by completing the M8-4-1: Suspicious Mail 1 mission.

7 Ifrit

Zack will be forced to fight Ifrit shortly into the opening of Crisis Core during his visit to Banora Village. Once the battle ends, he will then be given the chance to fight the creature again by completing the M8-1-1: Rematch with Ifrit.

If the player opts to complete the M8-1-1: Rematch with Ifrit mission, they will be rewarded with the means of summoning this infernian. When called upon, Ifrit will engulf the battle arena in flames before firing several blazing beams at Zack’s enemies. It’s a great summon to have for the first few chapters, but it’s arguably one of the weakest.

6 Phoenix

The Phoenix Materia can be found in Chapter 8 when Zack reaches Nibelheim. To acquire it, he must speak to the young boy in the center of the town and then climb the nearby water tower. There, Zack will find the Phoenix Materia, a summon that can easily be missed if the player doesn’t search for it.

When summoned, the Phoenix will unleash a move known as Rebirth Flame, an extremely powerful ability that surrounds Zack’s foes with fire. It can deal some pretty serious damage, but not all players will be given the chance to use it if they don’t explore Nibelheim to its fullest.

5 Bahamut

Zack must face the summon known as Bahamut during his trip to Banora Village. Fans of the Final Fantasy series will be aware of Bahamut’s reputation as a summon, so they should know better than to approach the battle without the appropriate preparations.

Once the battle is won, the Bahamut Summon Materia can be obtained by completing the Mission M8-1-3: Clash with Genesis Troops mission, and then by facing Bahamut once more in the M8-1-4: Rematch with Bahamut mission. When called upon, Bahamut will perform Megaflare, one of the most powerful spells in the Final Fantasy series.

4 Bahamut Fury

Zack will be forced to battle Bahamut Fury atop the Shinra Headquarters during the events of Chapter 4. The battle can be quite challenging, which will further excite players about obtaining the means to summon Bahamut Fury for themselves.

Sadly, defeating Bahamut Fury during the main story doesn’t reward players with the means to summon it. Those who wish to obtain the means to do so must first complete the Mission 8-5-6: Treasure Info 6 mission. When summoned, Bahamut Fury will unleash an attack known as Exaflare, an even more powerful version of Megaflare.

3 Cactuar

Obtaining the Cactuar Summon Materia can be quite tricky considering how easily it can be missed. During the M3-1-3: Eliminate the Copies mission, Zack can come across a rogue Cactuar in the southeast area of the map. Upon defeating it, the player must complete the newly unlocked M10-1: Cactuar Secrets missions to obtain the Cactoid Summon Materia.

The Cactuar can deal out some pretty high damage. Better yet, its Needle attack hits multiple times, so players don’t need to worry about the Damage Limit weakening its power. If obtained as soon as the mission is unlocked, the Cactuar summon will make short work of Crisis Core’s early battles.

2 Tonberry

Like the Cactuar, acquiring the Tonberry Summon Materia requires Zack to find the wandering Tonberry in the M6-1-5: Buried in the Caves mission. Once it has been vanquished, the M10-2: Tonberry Quests will become available.

Completing the three new Tonberry-themed missions will reward Zack with the Tonberry Summon Materia, one of the best summons in the game. When called upon, the Tonberry will sprint toward Zack, knife in hand, before tripping over a rock and hurling the knife at an enemy. Though the knife looks harmless enough, its damage output is astronomical.

1 Odin

Odin is arguably the best summon in all of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion. When called upon, a cutscene depicting Odin atop a horse will play. He will then perform a move known as Zantetsuken, an extremely powerful attack capable of instantly killing a target.

Sadly, not all enemies are susceptible to Zantetsuken, so Odin can’t always be relied on, especially during boss fights. To obtain Odin, the player must complete the M8-1-6: Mystery Materia mission.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC.
