RELATED: Dragon Ball: Craziest What-If Stories From The Games
Not only that, but certain items in this Dragon Ball provide both gameplay impact and a bit of a tease with regard to Easter Eggs. One such feature is Super Souls, essentially “catchphrases” or “essences” that can be equipped and that reflect a particular character’s spirit, mood, or tone in their appearance. In the game, certain Super Souls can give players a tremendous advantage in combat.
10 You Must Die By My Hand!
Used by: Frieza (1st Form), Frieza (Final Form), Frieza (Full Power)
Despite Goku and Vegeta’s long-lasting rivalry, it’s Frieza that is arguably the most iconic supervillain in the entirety of the Dragon Ball franchise. It makes sense that his “You must die by my hand!” Super Soul reflects this conviction of killing Goku with his own hands in his final transformation, and this reflects in the tenacity this provides.
With this Super Soul, a character survives the first knockout with a single point of HP. Not only that, this temporarily nullifies all damage and even gives a temporary boost to all Ki Blasts. Players reliant on long-range play will especially appreciate this survivability boost, especially since the right dodges can help players pull off a counter-offensive just as easily.
9 Don’t Quit! Get Up!
Used by: Frost
An alternative to “You must die by my hand!”, Frieza’s equivalent Frostfrom Universe 6 has a similar Super Soul, “Don’t quit! Get up!” that allows characters to get up from the direst of situations. Again, using this gives players one shot at skipping a KO in favor of a 1-point HP bar. This still gives temporary nullification from attacks.
However, the new thing here is how the ability boosts the potency of melee attacks. Players who love playing up close and personal can have “Don’t quit! Get up!” as a last-resort gambit, especially if their characters specialize in rushdowns and staggering moves that can stun opponents to oblivion when caught.
8 Hmm Hmm Hmmm! Hm Hmmm! Hmmm!
Used by: Elder Kai
It’s thanks to the likes ofElder Kai that Goku managed to tap into his potential throughout the years in Dragon Ball, and it’s this level of support that can help players become more capable of helping allies from the backlines. With “Hmm Hmm Hmmm! Hm Hmmm! Hmmm!”, players will always shorten their allies’ revival time. This immediately makes them more capable of turning the tide of combat in longer incursions.
Not only that but with Awoken Skills and Reinforcement Skills Activated, this Super Soul will immediately active Health Auto-Recovery for all allies. This immediately gives everyone a better fighting chance in combat, as they are always in a state of health recovery. While this means players may sacrifice more aggressive bonuses, the healing-related perks can drastically boost the team’s survivability.
7 This Oughta Make Things Interesting
Used by: Broly
Despite appearing only in films, Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan has become one of the most iconic foes in Dragon Ball history due to his sheer tankiness, taking the forces of all existing Super Saiyans at the time and a completely new transformation to defeat him. As such, it’s no surprise that he’s such a coveted character in any Dragon Ball game, and his arrival in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is no different. This is especially with this Super Soul, “This oughta make things interesting,” which is best used against transforming opponents.

With this Super Soul, a character gets a medium boost to all attacks as soon as opponents activate a power-up. What’s more impressive is how this ability can stack up to ten (10) times, potentially putting pose-reliant enemies at a standstill. The fact that this Super Soul outright punishes transformations, a key component in the game, with player buffs does make this ability live up to its name - it does make combat interesting.
6 Please, You Gotta Believe Me!
Used by: Raditz
It’s during the arrival of the villain Raditz in Dragon Ball Z that both Goku and viewers were informed of the protagonist’s alien heritage, eventually becoming the catalyst that transforms the series into the lowkey sci-fi martial arts franchise it’s known today. And in the gameplay of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Raditz has the perfect line to answer the disbelief of his little brother Goku and viewers: “Please, you gotta believe me!”
Regardless of how appropriate this line is in the context of Dragon Ball history, this is also a nifty emergency Super Soul to have for players just about to enter the PVP scene. With this ability, players who experience a Guard Break for the first time will not only temporarily reduce the enemy’s movement speed, but also severely weakens enemy attacks for a short while. This immediately punishes enemies who are reliant on Stamina breaks, giving players a shot to dominate combat.
5 Our Two Strengths Aren’t Just Added Together
Used by: Gogeta (DB Super)
It took Goku and Vegeta literally their combined strengths to defeat the Legendary Super Saiyan Broly, with this Super Saiyan form being known as Gogeta (DB Super). However, as the gameplay in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 affirms, Goku ensures both viewers and those around him that Gogeta isn’t simply a combination of both their parts. With “Our two strengths aren’t just added together,” Goku hints that Gogeta gets a massive power boost with the wills of both Goku and Vegeta added together.
In combat, players with this Super Soul immediately get a boost in Stamina recovery speed. Not only that, but they will also always have Ki Auto-Recovery Mode activated. Not only is this a great way to prolong the usage time of Super Saiyan Blue forms, but this Super Soul is a nifty resource management tool. Players with constant Stamina and Ki recovery can do a lot more damage over time in prolonged combat.
4 Thank You, Dragon Balls!
Used by: Goku
It’s a common occurrence in the Dragon Ball series for Goku to clutch a victory against a seemingly-undefeatable foe with an ultimate attack like the Kamehameha. In the gameplay of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, a properly-timed Ultimate Attack can indeed turn the tide of combat. However, with “Thank you, Dragon Balls!”, players seemingly get another chance in an emergency situation.

At its core, using this Super Soul is only available once while activating an Ultimate Attack. Not only does this recover Stamina and Ki by a large amount, but Health as well. This incentivizes the use of an all-out attack in the case of emergency and, should this hit, give players plenty of room to dish out punishment to enemies who weren’t fast enough to finish them off.
3 Very Well, I Shall Return Time
Used by: Whis
Accompanying the brash God of Destruction Beerus is his personal Angel, Whis. It’s thanks to his skill that even the likes of Goku and Vegeta have trained to become stronger under his wing, and he’s more than capable of taking on the front lines when necessary. In his gameplay from Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Whis can tap into his Super Soul, “Very well, I shall return time” to incentivize blocking - something that is very characteristic of Whis’s pursuit of the perfect training.
With this ability, players restore a bit of health whenever they perform a Just Guard. This is perhaps one of the best inclusions of an incentive to play defensively in a fighting game, especially for something fast-paced like Xenoverse 2 that often wants players to get more aggressive.
2 Any Taller And It Would Be Unnatural!
Used by: Frieza
It’s thanks to Frieza that fans of Dragon Ball saw for the first time how horrific it would be for a villain to have multiple transformations. And while Frieza’s Final Form is much smaller than his previous ones, this sleek look is perfect for Frieza’s villainous appeal. As such, “Any taller and it would be unnatural!” is quite a funny quip that fits Frieza’s prideful yet regal approach to combat, and it would be bad for anyone to underestimate him because of this.
With this Super Soul, Frieza immediately gets a small power boost to all attacks as soon as the battle begins. This incentivizes fast-paced rushdown gameplay for aggressive characters who want to finish combat as fast as possible. Moreover, a little after combat begins, this Super Soul will give the character a massive boost in attack. Aggressive characters will benefit greatly from this ability, and may immediately make the likes of Frieza a force to reckon with.
1 I Think I’m Finally Warmed Up Now!
Used by: Vegeta
Of all characters in Dragon Ball, it’s Vegeta who is often a fan-favorite simply because of his drive to become much better than ever-growing Goku and his numerous forms. This, coupled with his Saiyan Pride, makes him an utter badass in any combat situation. And “I think I’m finally warmed up now!” as a Super Soul is a perfect representation of this swagger.
A few seconds into battle, this Super Soul activates and gives the character a whopping boost in multiple elements. Aside from getting medium boosts to attacks, this also boosts a character’s movement speed and kicks in Auto-Recovery Mode. Players who want to rush in for the quick kill can definitely enjoy this Super Soul, especially if they’re using fairly balanced characters.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 was released for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC.
