Because there are so many titles, there are bound to be games that stand out from the rest. Many fans of the Ultraman series who want to get into the games will want to know which titles are the best.

10 Ultraman: Towards the Future (1991)

One of the few Ultraman games to be released in English, Ultraman: Towards the Future came out in 1991 for the SNES. This release follows the story of the Ultraman: Towards the Future series that aired in the early ’90s, and it is a simple tournament-style fighting game.

Players will fight off many monsters from the original series, and some from the TV show the game is based on. Although this fighter was praised for staying faithful to the 1990s series, it was also criticized for being relentlessly difficult.

9 Kaiju Busters (2009)

Often called an Ultraman-themed Monster Hunter game, Kaiju Busters was released on Nintendo DS in 2009. Players take control of a space marine in the Science Force, whose job is to explore faraway planets and kill all sorts of monsters that may get in the way.

Though Ultraman doesn’t make an appearance in Kaiju Busters, it is still considered a spin-off of the series, as it focuses on the Science Patrol. The game has surprisingly good Kaiju models, especially for the DS.

8 Ultraman Nexus (2005)

Ultraman Nexus was released in 2005 and is based on the TV series of the same name. It’s a fighting game that also includes characters from the film ULTRAMAN.

As such, Ultraman Nexus has a large selection of characters, all of which have their own unique play-styles and over-the-top (but entertaining) moves, while still being simple enough to play. The game’s graphics are highly-regarded and the soundtrack fits the occasion, however, the simplicity of the combat system may turn a few people off.

7 Ultra X Weapons (1995)

Ultra X Weapons came out in 1995 as an arcade game, and it is known as Ultra Keibitai in Japan. An action game, Ultra X Weapons is a top-down shooter, similar to Galaga.

Although the controls take some time to get used to, Ultraman All-Star Chronicle proudly sports a large cast of characters – over 50 of them – and an original story sure to please any fan or newcomer.

5 Ultraman Tiga & Ultraman Dyna: New Generations (1998)

As another spinoff of a show in the Ultraman franchise (that being the Ultraman Tiga and Ultraman Dyna series), this game was released in 1998 for the PlayStation 1. The title is a mix of arcade-style action and a fighter, in which a player can keep fighting until they run out of lives/credits.

There are over 13 different stages in the campaign, and players can either choose between playing as Dyna or Tiga. New Generations is often praised for its decent graphics and simple enough fighting style.

4 Ultraman Fighting Evolution 0 (2006)

Ultraman Fighting Evolution Rebirth has a Story Mode that is split into 13 episodes. Fighting Evolution Rebirth also sports the “Nebula Combo” system, which will greatly help a player when a certain system of buttons is pressed. Released only in Japan in 2004, Ultraman is a game for the PlayStation 2 that followed the story of the original series, along with the Return of Ultraman. It’s also a fighting game but boasts a large cast of characters, along with a well-written story mode that stays largely faithful to the series.

The game comes packed with many fighting moves and stays true to the series. The models of the enemies also look shockingly high-quality for a PS2 game that came out nearly two decades ago.
