RELATED: The Best FPS Games You Can Only Play On Mobile
Picking the best weapons available will help alleviate this game’s higher than average difficulty level — just as picking the wrong weapons will make a rundown much more difficult (and subsequently less fun). This list will only consider weapons available in the current rundown. So, the HEL Rifle — which would certainly be in the top three of this list — will not be included. Here are some of the best picks in GTFO.
Updated on May 29, 2022, by Jeff Drake: Since the game’s initial release weapons have come and gone. In fact, many of GTFO’s best weapons are available only in specific Rundowns. Some of the most useful weapons in GTFO are not currently available, and many of these discontinued weapons are sorely missed by the players. However, many of the discontinued weapons were, honestly, a bit unbalanced (like the Heavy SMG). This update will add five additional items in an effort to include all the best weapons. These new entries will focus on the weapons that are either Rundown specific or are not currently available. Though, the discontinued weapons might be reintroduced in future Rundowns.
15 Omneco LRG HEL Rifle
Weapon Type: Special Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 5/28 Damage: 30. 01 Rate of Fire: Very Slow Reload Time: 3. 2 Seconds Range: Very Long
The HEL Rifle was only available in Rundown 003 and 005. This is a “semi-automatic hybrid electrothermal light-gas gun”. In gamer terms, this means it fires energy bolts that do a ton of damage. Enough damage to kill Strikers with one shot – anywhere, it doesn’t need to be a head-shot.
When the HEL Rifle is available for selection there’s really no need to get the Koning Sniper Rifle. The HEL Rifle is better in nearly every category except for the scope, the Koning has a better scope.
14 Buckland SBS III Sawed-Off Shotgun
Weapon Type: Main Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 3/51 Damage: 23. 6 Rate of Fire: Very Slow Reload Time: 1. 8 Seconds Range: Very Short
The Sawed-Off Shotgun is a bit of a double-edged sword. This weapon does an impressive amount of damage to everything in the area when fired. The problem is that this weapon forces the player to get close to the enemy for it to be the most effective. With the Sawed-Off Shotgun, it is smart to have a squad member providing cover.
Allowing enemies to get close isn’t too bad though; it’s what this gun is designed to do. Strikers will fall in groups after being hit by a blast from this weapon, and those that survive will be staggered. This weapon is also fairly good for conserving ammo. The Sawed-Off Shotgun is available in Rundown 005.
13 Techman Klust 6 Burst Cannon
Weapon Type: Special Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 20/70 Damage: 100. 5 Rate of Fire: Medium Reload Time: 3 Seconds Range: Medium
The Burst Cannon was originally made available in Rundown 003, and players who have used this incredibly deadly cannon know why it’s not available in other Rundowns. There are few weapons that can match the Burst Cannon when it comes to covering an entrance into the currently occupied room.

This weapon’s slow rate of fire and reload time are not as big of liabilities as they might seem. This is due to the Burst Cannon’s high damage and burst capability. Pair this weapon with a medium range weapon like the SMG or Pistol. Switch out for the main weapon instead of reloading, or if there are only a few scattered enemies about.
12 Accrat ND6 Heavy SMG
Weapon Type: Main Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 25/331 Damage: 2. 01 Rate of Fire: Medium Reload Time: 1. 55 Seconds Range: Medium
It’s not too difficult to see why this weapon is restricted in GTFO. It was just a bit overpowered. The Heavy SMG did more damage than the SMG but had more stability while firing than the Assault Rifle. It carries less ammo in the magazine than the SMG, but its ammo storage capacity is not much less than either the SMG or Assault Rifle.
At medium range, there weren’t many weapons better than the Heavy SMG. Its high rate of fire, damage, and stability allowed for rapid successive headshots. Many players are eagerly awaiting an opportunity to use this weapon again.
11 Bataldo Model 8 HEL Revolver
Weapon Type: Main Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 8/100 Damage: 8. 01 Rate of Fire: Slow Reload Time: 2. 3 Seconds Range: Medium
The ability to use the HEL Revolver is a great reason to play Rundown 004, which is widely considered one of the hardest in GTFO. The HEL Revolver gives the player a weapon with the damage of the DMR Rifle, the stability of the Pistol, a high stagger rate, and a reasonably fast reload time.
The HEL Revolver also has piercing rounds, so this weapon is king in confined hallways. Headshots are easy to pull-off with this weapon, and even if the player hits the torso instead this weapon’s staggering capability makes the follow-up shot easy.
10 Mastaba R66 Revolver
Weapon Type: Special Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 6/52 Damage: 12. 21 Rate of Fire: High Reload Time: 2 Seconds Range: Medium
The Mastaba Revolver is a decent weapon. For starters, it deals quite a bit of damage. As long as a player has good aim, this is a very efficient weapon that can one-hit kill Scouts, Strikers, and Shooters. The revolver has a high rate of fire; however, this doesn’t mean much, considering it only holds six rounds.
There are several factors, apart from the small ammo capacity, that keep this weapon from ranking higher. It has a slow reload time compared to other weapons. This weapon also has a significant amount of recoil, making follow-up shots less accurate.
9 Techman Veruta XII Machine Gun
Weapon Type: Special Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 50/250 Damage: 3. 21 Rate of Fire: High Reload Time: 4 Seconds Range: Medium
Many beginning players of GTFO will probably assume using a machine gun would be a no-brainer, since swarms of enemies can charge the group. This weapon has its uses, but overall the cons slightly outweigh the pros.

The Techman Veruta has a large magazine and ammo capacity. This weapon is also great for crowd control and has good range. One huge drawback to using this weapon, though, is the extremely slow reload time. Also, the damage per shot leaves a lot to be desired, especially for a machine gun.
8 Accrat Golok DA Bullpup Rifle
Weapon Type: Main Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 40/346 Damage: 1. 91 Rate of Fire: High Reload Time: 2. 4 Seconds Range: Medium
There are many reasons to pick the Bullpup Rifle, and a few reasons why it may be better to pick another weapon. This assault rifle is phenomenally stable while firing; it has low recoil. It also has a big magazine and one of the largest ammo capacities in the game.
The Bullpup Rifle’s high rate of fire is a bit of a double-edged sword. It allows players to perform crowd control duties for the group; however, in a long, drawn-out encounter, it can deplete the ammunition quickly if a player isn’t careful.
7 TR22 Hanaway DMR
Weapon Type: Main Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 12/89 Damage: 7. 51 Rate of Fire: Low Reload Time: 2. 3 Seconds Range: Very Long
The TR22 Hanaway DMR is a semi-automatic rifle that has remained relevant since the first rundown. This is an excellent support weapon for a group — it’s almost mandatory for one member to carry a DMR, but if the whole group uses them, it will make fights more difficult.

The DMR does a lot of damage, and the damage doesn’t diminish much at long range. Once a player gets good at aiming, this weapon becomes one of the most efficient in the game in terms of kills per magazine. The only negatives are the low ammo capacity and low accuracy when firing from the hip.
6 Koning PR 11 Sniper
Weapon Type: Special Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 3/18 Damage: 40. 01 Rate of Fire: Very Low Reload Time: 3. 5 Seconds Range: Very Long
The Koning Sniper Rifle is the weapon of extremes in GTFO. It has one of the highest damage ratings, and its range is the best in the game. This is one of the few weapons that can one-shot kill enemies without the need to score a headshot.
Unfortunately, it also has the smallest magazine and the lowest ammo capacity in the game, as well as the slowest rate of fire. This is not a primary weapon, but when it’s used, it can kill the stronger enemies in the game quickly.
5 Buckland S870 Shotgun
Weapon Type: Special Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 8/28 Damage: 3. 01X10 Rate of Fire: Low Reload Time: 3 Seconds Range: Very Short
The shotgun has been the king of crowd control in first-person shooters since the days of Doom and Duke Nukem 3D. When the enemy is swarming the player’s position, it’s nice to have a weapon that fires in a wide area and deals a ton of damage.
In GTFO, few weapons are better at securing a choke-point better than the shotgun. Two or three well-placed shots is typically enough to clear an entire group of enemies. The only real negatives are the limited range and ammo capacity; however, considering players should only use this weapon during close-quarters engagements, these negatives aren’t deal-breakers.
4 Shelling S49 Pistol
Weapon Type: Main Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 15/168 Damage: 4. 39 Rate of Fire: Medium Reload Time: 1. 5 Seconds Range: Short
The Shelling S49 Pistol isn’t flashy, but it’s reliable and efficient. This weapon does decent damage per shot and has a good rate of fire. The best aspect is its ability to cause enemies to stagger — only the sawed-off shotgun can match this weapon’s ability to stagger enemies. Causing enemies to stagger is a game mechanic that GTFO players will want to exploit as much as possible.

The only downside to using the Shelling Pistol is that the player must be skilled at aiming, and it doesn’t have the best range. Once a player gets good at hitting their target, this is one of the most efficient weapons a player can use.
3 Malatack HXC Heavy Assault Rifle
Weapon Type: Special Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 30/149 Damage: 5. 01 Rate of Fire: Low Reload Time: 2. 3 Seconds Range: Long
The standard Malatack Assault Rifle is a fine weapon, but at times it feels more like a submachine gun. The Heavy Assault Rifle is what the standard assault rifle should have been. This weapon deals a lot of damage per shot, especially for an automatic weapon. This damage isn’t diminished much for longer range shots, making the Heavy Assault Rifle a great choice for nearly any type of engagement.
The low rate of fire isn’t as much of a drawback as one would think either. In fact, it helps the user conserve ammo and makes follow-up shot a little more accurate.
2 Omneco EXP1 HEL Gun
Weapon Type: Special Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 9/39 Damage: 16. 25 Rate of Fire: Medium Reload Time: 3. 3 Seconds Range: Long
The Omneco HEL Gun seems overpowered at times, due to its ability to fire penetrating rounds that can kill multiple enemies with a single shot. Its high damage output and long range are also reasons for this weapon being ranked so high. A player with a HEL Gun can kill an entire group of enemies in seconds if they are forced to group together.
This weapon does have a long reload time, and there is a delay between shots as the gun charges. The HEL Gun is also lacking a bit in the ammo capacity department.
1 Van Auken LTC 5 SMG
Weapon Type: Main Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 40/393 Damage: 1. 76 Rate of Fire: High Reload Time: 1. 5 Seconds Range: Short to Medium
A lot of the weapons in GTFO are specialized for specific encounters. Shotguns are great for close-range fights, and the HEL Gun is awesome in enclosed areas. The Van Auken SMG, however, is great in nearly any type of encounter.
This weapon has a huge magazine, and even when it runs out, this weapon can be reloaded quickly. It doesn’t do a lot of damage, but it has a high rate of fire to compensate. This weapon doesn’t suffer too much from recoil either; there is some horizontal recoil, but it’s manageable.
GTFO is available on PC.
